Linton man accused of physical attack on family member

A Linton man is accused of an attack on his own father as the father was walking into a bank last Friday. He landed some blows then the father put the son on the ground and held him down until police arrived.

Cody Paul Jackson

Cody Paul Jackson, 33, Linton, was arrested by Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department last Friday night, October 1.

A few minutes before 6 p.m., LPD Dispatch got a 911 call about a fight involving a baseball bat (later determined to be a “spindle”) at the Crane Federal Credit Union.

LPD Officer Walker, the investigating officer, and LPD Officer Bobby Pierce responded and Officer Walker said when he arrived on the scene, he saw a man, later identified as Cody Jackson, laying on his back in the parking lot, being held down by another man, later identified as Jackson’s father. The father said he was just holding Jackson down until police got there.

A witness on the scene said he was at the bank to get his paycheck cashed and after the father pulled into the parking lot, a red pickup truck pulled in at a high rate of speed then after a screeching stop, Cody Jackson got out and hit his father with a wooden spindle as the father was walking into the bank. The witness said Jackson hit the man three times until the spindle broke. The father then took Jackson to the ground and held him down.

A second witness confirmed he saw the same thing as the first witness.

Two other witnesses, a couple who arrived in the parking lot while Jackson was being held down, said Jackson was screaming and the father was saying he didn’t want to hurt Jackson and for someone to call the police.

When Officer Walker talked to the father, he observed that his left forearm was swollen, red and bruised. The father said when Jackson got out of the truck, he said, “I’m going to kill you.” The father said after being hit, he was moving backward yelling at Jackson to calm down and that he didn’t want to hurt him.  The father said there is a history of disagreements with his son and they had an argument a week earlier.

When Officer Pierce talked to Jackson, Jackson allegedly admitted, “Yeah I attacked him, I want him dead.”

Jackson was taken into custody and during transport, had a seizure in the patrol vehicle so was taken to Greene County General Hospital for a medical check before being taken to jail.

Jackson was booked in at 8:45 p.m. with bond set at $20,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Jackson has not bonded out of jail as of late Monday.

Jackson is expected to be in Greene Superior Court tomorrow morning for an initial hearing to face charges of:

  • Domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and

  • Intimidation where defendant draws or uses a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.
