After responding to a domestic dispute last Saturday night, a Linton police officer and a Linton firefighter/first responder were allegedly kicked by a man who was arrested and has now been charged with three felonies.

Robert Liberty Peters, 46, of Linton, was arrested by Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department last weekend.

Officer Agan was on duty when officers were dispatched to a residence on 2nd Street NW in Linton around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, for a domestic dispute. A woman had reported Peters was intoxicated and was throwing things at her.

In a probable cause affidavit prepared by Officer Agan, the investigating officer, he indicated this was not the first time officers had been called to this location. He wrote, “From previous altercations at this residence, I know Robert to be very combative towards law enforcement when he is intoxicated.”

Officer Agan said after he arrived at the residence, Peters appeared to be very angry and was yelling and cursing at him then began walking towards him in an aggressive manner while continuing to curse and yell.

Peters was advised to stay back but he continued to advance toward the officer who reported Peters posture and body language was aggressive and led him to believe Peters intended to get physical with him.

Peters was placed into a chair and restrained but when Agan walked past him, Peters allegedly raised a leg up and kicked Agan in the leg below his knee causing Agan to stumble.

Other officers arrived to assist including LPD Sgt. Logan Hobbs who rode with Peters in the back of an ambulance to go to Greene County General Hospital for a medical check while Agan stayed behind to talk to the woman who made the call.

According to Agan, she said Peters was intoxicated when she got home and they got into an altercation. She said Peters had thrown a beer and dumped beer all over her then threw a small folding table and threatened her.

Sgt. Hobbs reported Peters threatened him on the way to the hospital and once they arrived, Peters continued to be combative and kicked at both law enforcement and hospital staff.

Peters allegedly told Sgt. Hobbs that he was going to kill him, eat him and eat his children.

Peters allegedly kicked a firefighter and emergency responder, Derek Aydt of the Linton Fire Department and Greene County Rescue, in his forearm.

Peters refused medical treatment and was transported and booked into the Greene County Jail around 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 9.

When Peters appeared in Greene Superior Court on Wednesday, a no-contact order was put into place, a public defender was appointed to represent him and he was charged with:

• Domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

• Battery against a public safety official, a Level 6 felony.

• Battery against a public safety official, a Level 6 felony.

• Intimidation, a Level 6 felony.

His bond was set at $9,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed but he has not yet posted bond. As of Friday evening, June 14, he was still in jail.
