Linton man accused of kicking an officer who responded to domestic incident

After officers responded to a domestic dispute and a handcuffed man was placed in a patrol car, the man allegedly attempted to push past an officer and kicked the officer more than once in an attempt to flee.

Jordan Matthew Sharp

Jordan Matthew Sharp, 32, Linton, was arrested by Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department early Wednesday, January 22. He was booked into the Greene County Jail around 2:10 a.m. after Officer Agan was dispatched to a domestic incident around 9:05 p.m. on Monday night.

The incident was reported by a couple who said while they were inside their own house, they heard shouting and screaming coming from another residence. When the man stepped outside for a smoke, he saw a neighbor woman walking behind her house, then saw Sharp grab her and forcibly pull the woman back inside the house. When officers talked to the couple later, the man said he heard the woman shout, “Help me, someone call the police.” They did call the police. The man also told officers this was not the first time he had witnessed an altercation between the neighbor woman and Sharp.

Officer Agan was first to arrive on the scene at a residence on J Street NW in Linton. LPD Officer Joe Riley and GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce and Deputy Alan Jackson arrived later to assist.

When Officer Agan arrived, he heard yelling coming from the residence, then saw the woman run out of the house, topless. The officer stopped and as he approached, she was shaking, crying and pleading for help before she ran back inside the house, leaving the door wide open. He said once he got to the doorway, he could hear her moaning and groaning, and he saw Sharp inside.

The officer ordered Sharp outside and reported Sharp was angry, difficult, using foul language. Sharp informed the officer he and the woman had been fighting, but as he was talking to the officer, according to the officer, Sharp took off all of his clothing except for his underwear. Officer Agan said Sharp exhibited numerous signs of intoxication and Sharp admitted he was drunk.

Officer Agan reported when he talked to the woman, her mouth was bleeding and she had a swollen, discolored left eye. However, she was hesitant to admit that a physical altercation had taken place but finally did confirm that. She refused to say how her injuries occurred and refused photographs to be taken of her injuries, saying she did not want Sharp to get into trouble.

Sharp was taken into custody, handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car but he managed to move his hands from his back to his front then when Officer Riley went to the car to speak to him, Sharp pushed through Officer Riley in an attempt to flee. Sharp and Officer Riley ended up on the ground with Sharp twisting, pulling away, and kicking. Before officers got Sharp restrained and back in the patrol car, Sharp allegedly kicked an officer’s body more than once.

Sharp was transported to Greene County General Hospital to be medically cleared. While there, he allegedly was irrational, irate and shouted obscenities.

When Sharp appeared in Greene Circuit Court earlier today, Friday, January 24, his bond was set at $16,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed, according to court records.

He has been charged with:

  • Failure to return to lawful detention and inflicts bodily injury to another, a Level 5 felony,
