Linton man accused of battery on his girlfriend

A Linton man, accused of hitting his girlfriend and giving her a busted lip, was arrested last week then charged with battery resulting in bodily injury when he went to court yesterday.

Michael Sexton

Michael John Sexton, 63, of Linton, was arrested early Friday, May 17, by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department.

Officer McDonald was dispatched to a residence on 5th Street NW in Linton around 3 a.m. that morning.

When she arrived, a woman was standing on the front porch saying her boyfriend, Sexton, had hit her in the mouth. Officer McDonald reported she had blood on the front of her shirt and around her mouth.

The woman told McDonald she was sitting at the kitchen table with a male friend when Sexton came out of the bedroom yelling at her, telling her she needed to clean the kitchen. She said he then went back into the bedroom and started throwing things. She said she told him not to break her stuff and when she went into the bedroom, Sexton hit her in the mouth.

Sexton refused to talk to Officer McDonald.

Before Officer McDonald arrived, the friend who had been sitting at the table had left but was located by LPD Officer Orry Phipps.

McDonald reported the friend told Officer Phipps the same story as the woman but when the woman went into the bedroom where the yelling continued, he got up and left the house.

Sexton was transported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department where he was booked into jail at 4:16 a.m. His bond was set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He was later released after posting $50 cash.

When Sexton appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing yesterday, May 23, he was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
