Linton launches patriotic decorating contest ahead of Freedom Festival

As the nation prepares to celebrate America's 250th birthday, the City of Linton is encouraging residents and businesses throughout the community to show their patriotic spirit by participating in a citywide decorating contest.

The Residential and Commercial Decorating Contest is being organized in conjunction with the Linton Freedom Festival as part of the community's celebration of the nation's semiquincentennial.

According to city employee Tomi Anderson, organizers hope to make this year's Freedom Festival celebration even bigger by encouraging participation from all areas of the city, not just downtown.

"We encourage everyone in Linton, not just downtown, to decorate," Anderson said. "We host the largest parade in the state and see many people coming from different areas. We want to show them how much pride we have in our community."

Residents and businesses are invited to decorate their homes, storefronts and properties with patriotic displays celebrating the country's 250 years of freedom.

Participants can register through Linton City Hall or by calling 812-798-1236.

Once registrations are received, organizers will post QR codes that will allow community members to vote for their favorite displays. Voting will take place from June 14-28.

Winners will be announced during the Golf Cart, ATV and Side-by-Side Parade on June 29.

Organizers hope the contest will help create a festive atmosphere throughout the city while showcasing the pride residents have in their community and country.

"Let's show our pride. Let's celebrate freedom. Let's make Linton shine," Jones said.
