Linton driver facing drug charges after Tuesday night traffic stop

A Linton driver was arrested Tuesday night after officers reported he was in possession of meth, numerous items of paraphernalia and multiple syringes.

Michael Wayne Hasler

Michael Wayne Hasler, 48, Linton, was arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department late Tuesday, July 20.

Hasler was driving a red 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck without license plate lights. Around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Officer Franklin initiated a traffic stop in Linton and reported Hasler seemed very nervous and frustrated.

When LPD Officer Joe Riley and his K9 partner Kona arrived to assist and conducted a free air sniff around the truck, Kona alerted to the presence of a controlled substance.

LPD Officer Bobby Pierce was also assisting on the scene and when he asked Hasler to step out of the truck, Hasler refused. When officers opened the door and told him to get out, he got out.

Hasler allegedly admitted he had a “one-hitter” in a pocket then they found a smoking device in another pocket and a small zip bag containing a white crystal substance in his watch pocket. The substance field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

During a search of the truck, Officer Franklin reported they found two more smoking devices with burnt residues, a spoon containing a white crystal substance, half of a pill marked M3, two bags of plant-like material, multiple items of paraphernalia and 12 syringes.

Hasler was booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:13 p.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance – no date yet set.

A criminal case was filed against Hasler earlier today. He is facing charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Unlawful possession of syringe, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
