Failure to signal a turn led to a Sunday night traffic stop, then to LPD K9 Kona sniffing around the vehicle which led to the driver’s arrest.  

Donald Lynn Martin, 61, Linton, was arrested by Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department on Sunday night, February 16, following a traffic stop.

After LPD Officer Joe Riley reported he just saw a white 1999 Lexus fail to use a turn signal in Linton, Officer Agan had the vehicle in sight and initiated a traffic stop around 7:12 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of A and North Main streets.

Martin was the driver, with two passengers in the vehicle. While Officer Agan was conducting business, Officer Riley deployed his K9 Kona and the K9 alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the Lexus.

While Martin was outside the vehicle talking to Officer Riley, he allegedly told the officer there was a “meth pipe” under the passenger seat that belonged to him. A field test of the substance in the pipe indicated it was methamphetamine.

The two passengers denied knowing about the pipe.

Martin was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in around 8:15 p.m. He was being held without bond pending his appearance in court for an initial hearing. As of late Wednesday afternoon, Martin was still in jail.

He is facing preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
