June fight in Worthington leads to charge of disorderly conduct
After WPD officers responded to an active fight in progress between two men in June, and forwarded a report to the prosecutor’s office, a charge of disorderly conduct was filed against one of the men.
Timothy A. Lentz, 67, Worthington, was scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing earlier today but after he called the court, he was granted a continuance. His hearing has been reset for mid-September.
Lentz is facing a charge of disorderly conduct – engaged in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, as a result of an incident that occurred in Worthington in late June.
Deputy Marshal Heather Wood of the Worthington Police Department, the investigating officer, was dispatched on Friday, June 25, to a residence on Wabash Avenue after someone called 911 but hung up. Dispatch advised an active fight might be in progress. WPD Deputy Marshal Ryan Montgomery and Reserve Officer Trey Sparks also responded.
When Officer Wood arrived, two men were in a verbal confrontation in the back yard. One of the men had blood on an arm. The two were separated. Lentz was one of the men.
When Officer Wood talked to the other man, he allegedly said he had been staying in a camper on the property and when he heard a knock and opened the door, Lentz was there. He said when he stepped out of the camper, Lentz grabbed him and threw him on the ground. But Lentz was the one with blood on his arm and when the man was asked about that, he allegedly said he bit Lentz three different times while telling Lentz to let go.
Another man who witnessed the altercation said he saw Lentz on top of the man and pulled Lentz off.
When Officer Montgomery tried to talk to Lentz to get his side of the story, Lentz requested an attorney and declined to talk about the incident.
The property owners asked that Lentz be trespassed from the property. Lentz was advised and signed a no-trespassing order.
The Greene County Ambulance Service also responded to the scene to check on the two men. Lentz was feeling dizzy and accepted medical help. Before transport, he was advised that he should not return to the property and information regarding possible disorderly conduct charges would be forwarded to the prosecutor.
The prosecutor’s office filed a criminal case against Lentz in early July.
