JPD arrests man suspected of dealing numerous controlled substances

A Jasonville police officer arrested a Linton man late Saturday night on numerous felony charges after the officer found quantities of several different types of controlled substances in the suspect’s possession.

Devon Bradley Tatlock, 24, Linton, was arrested by Officer Skylar Scott of the Jasonville Police Department last Saturday night, October 22.

When Officer Scott was headed north on State Road 59 on Saturday night, he saw a silver 2012 Chevrolet Silverado ahead of him also traveling north. He reported the Silverado crossed the center dividing line and entered the southbound lane of the highway then swerved back into the northbound lane and crossed the white fog line. Officer Scott activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop that was conducted at the intersection of SR 59 and County Road 400 North.

Tatlock was the driver of the Silverado who provided his driver’s license and registration while Officer Scott reported he could smell the odor of marijuana while he was talking to Tatlock. After checking Tatlock’s information, he asked Tatlock to step out of the vehicle and asked him if he had been drinking. Tatlock said he had not been drinking and he did not show signs of impairment. But when asked about the smell of marijuana, Tatlock said there was a small amount of marijuana inside a bag on the front passenger side of the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, a multi-colored zippered case was found in the front passenger seat that contained two plastic bags with several different kinds of pills. At that point Tatlock was advised that he was being detained. He was placed in hand restraints without incident and placed in the front passenger seat of Officer Scott's patrol vehicle.

Officer Scott reported that when he continued the search of the vehicle, in the center console he found a Glock 43 9 mm handgun that did not have a round chambered but it did have a magazine containing six Hornady 9 mm rounds. He also located you buprenorphine 900 mcg film later identified as a Schedule III controlled substance, a brown grinder containing a green plant material, a multi-colored container containing a green plant material and an additional multi-coloured grinder containing a green plant material. The green plant material later field tested positive for marijuana.

Officer Scott also reported that in the rear driver’s side of the vehicle, he found a gray Adidas backpack containing numerous plastic baggies, an unmarked pill bottle that contained 43 blue oval shaped pills later identified as alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance, plus two green packages of pills that contained 32 oxandrolone pills, a Schedule III controlled substance.

The pills first located in the multi-colored zipper container were later identified as 33 yellow capsules that was gabapentin which is not a controlled substance., and 20 round and oval shaped pills identified as oxycodone which is a Schedule II controlled substance. An additional smaller bag contained two round blue pills identified as diazepam, a Schedule IV controlled substance. Two other round orange pills and two round blue pills were also located but were not identified and have been sent to the state police lab for identification - results pending.

In a probable cause document prepared by Officer Scott, he wrote, “Due to the variety and quantity of scheduled controlled substances, the presence of digital scales and numerous plastic baggies and the presence of a handgun, I believe Devin to be involved in the transportation, delivery, and sale of controlled substances.”

Tatlock was transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department and on the way there he allegedly admitted that none of the controlled substances were prescribed to him.

A check of Tatlock's criminal history revealed he was convicted of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony in 2017 which means he has a prior felony conviction within the last 15 years making him ineligible to possess a valid handgun permit.

Tatlock was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:32 PM. He was being held without bond pending court appearance and the date of his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court is not yet known but a criminal case was filed against him earlier today, Monday, October 24,.

Tatlock is being charged with:

  • Unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior felony conviction within the last 15 years, a Level 5 felony,

  • Dealing in a Schedule II controlled substance, a Level 5 felony,

  • Dealing in a Schedule III controlled substance, a Level 5 felony,

  • Dealing in a Schedule III controlled substance, a Level 5 felony,

  • Dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance, a Level 6 felony,

  • Dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
