Scott was presented the award at the Jasonville City Council’s regular meeting on April 14 in recognition of his bravery and commitment to duty.

At approximately 5:57 p.m. Feb. 22, Greene County Dispatch received a call reporting that two individuals had fallen through the ice at Beaver Dam Lake, located at the state fish and wildlife area south of Jasonville. Scott was the first to arrive and found a 20-year-old man clinging to the edge of the ice in extreme distress. The second man was fully submerged and did not resurface.

The man clinging to the ice was about 60 feet from the shoreline and submerged up to his shoulders. Scott retrieved his department-issued water rescue throw bag, went onto the ice, deployed the bag and was able to pull the man from the freezing water to safety.

According to Jasonville Police Chief Ryan Van Horn, Scott’s actions exemplify the very essence of the award and demonstrate a level of dedication and selflessness that went well above and beyond the call of duty.
