Jasonville man failed to stop for lights and sirens and was arrested

A Jasonville man was arrested last Monday in Jasonville after an officer attempted to pull him over because he didn’t have a license plate on his vehicle. The driver failed to stop when the officer hit the lights and sirens.

John Eugene Middleton

John Eugene Middleton, 43, Jasonville, was arrested by Sgt. Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department on Monday night, March 15.

Sgt. Pilant was on patrol on March 15 when he saw a green Ford Winstar van pass by on State Road 48 and Jason Rogers Drive in Jasonville. When he looked back at the van, he noticed there was no license plate on the van.

The van turned south on Washington Street and when Sgt. Pilant turned onto Washington and activated the red and blue lights to make a traffic stop, the van accelerated and took off away from him. He activated the siren but the van continued on then made a right turn onto Fulton Street then turned into a driveway on Roosevelt Street.

The driver of the van was identified as Middleton who was taken into custody. When a woman came out of a house and asked what was going on, Middleton allegedly answered, “I screwed up.” But Middleton told the officer he did not see the officer behind him.

Middleton was transported and booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:43 p.m. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 and was released on March 16.

Middleton is scheduled to be in court on March 29 for an initial hearing.

He is facing a charge of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, a Level 6 felony.
