Jasonville man charged with OVWI and leaving the scene

A Jasonville man who left the roadway at the intersection of SR 54 and 59 west of Linton knocked down a couple of signs – one of them said “Do Not Enter.” He then drove on and later hit a guardrail. He’s accused of driving with a BAC of .224.

Carman Dominick Harris

Carman Dominick Harris, 30, Jasonville, was arrested by Deputy Harvey Holt of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Tuesday morning, November 16.

Harris was the driver of a blue 2013 Dodge Ram involved in an accident involving one vehicle west of Linton around 3 a.m. Tuesday, November 16.

Deputy Holt was dispatched and responded to the scene along with Officer Dustin Cain of the Jasonville Police Department and Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department.

When Deputy Holt arrived at the scene on North State Road 59, near County Road 400 North, he discovered Harris had been involved in a prior crash when he turned left from SR 54 onto SR 59 North. Deputy Holt said Harris left the pavement and drove through the grass at that intersection. His truck hit a small business sign then hit an Indiana State Department of Transportation (INDOT) sign at the intersection that said “Do Not Enter.” Pieces of his truck were left at this location.

Deputy Holt said Harris did not stop after this but continued north on SR 59 for about a mile then hit a guardrail on the east side of SR 59.

Harris was sitting in the driver’s seat of his truck when officers arrived and he admitted he was driving. Deputy Holt reported Harris showed numerous signs of intoxication and failed standard field sobriety testing.

Harris was transported to the Linton Police Department where a certified chemical breath test showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of .224. The legal limit is .08.

Harris was booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:31 a.m. with bond set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted bond and been released from custody.

Harris retained an attorney to represent him and the defense waived the initial hearing.

Harris has been charged with:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor.
