A Jasonville man is in custody on a warrant issued for an alleged battery on a family member. Last year he was convicted of another battery on the same family member.

Joshua Robert Gilbert, 34, Jasonville, was arrested by Jasonville Police Officer Jake Gambill and booked into the Greene County Jail around 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 17.

Gilbert was taken into custody on a warrant for his arrest that was issued on May 1 following an investigation by GCSD Deputy James Carpenter into an incident that occurred on April 9.

Deputy Carpenter was dispatched to a residence on April 9, along with Indiana Conservation Officer Matt Landis and Jasonville Police Chief Ryan Van Horn.

Gilbert allegedly got into a disagreement with members of his family and started a physical altercation with one family member. Other family members pulled Gilbert off the victim and held him until ICO Landis arrived and detained Gilbert. But the victim did not want to pursue criminal charges at that time, so Gilbert was not arrested but was allowed to leave the property for a few days then go back to get his belongings later.

Deputy Carpenter was dispatched to the same residence the next day after Gilbert allegedly called and threatened someone and the victim of the previous day battery decided to file a criminal report.

Yesterday, Monday, May 18, Gilbert appeared in Greene Circuit Court for an initial hearing via video conference between the jail and the courtroom. A public defender was appointed to represent him and Gilbert’s request for a speedy trial was granted. It’s currently set for September 1.

Gilbert has been charged with domestic battery, where the defendant has been previously convicted of a battery against the same person, a Level 5 felony.

His bond has been set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.
