Jasonville man accused of theft of a fishing shirt and a backpack
A Jasonville man who allegedly stuffed a shirt in a pocket and a backpack in his pants then tried to walk out of a store without paying for the items is being charged with theft.
John Lee Irons, 33, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department on Thursday night, June 9.
Officer Jackson was dispatched around 7:30 PM to the Linton Walmart store for a theft complaint. The suspect was John Irons.
When he arrived, an asset protection associate said Irons was stopped from trying to exit the store while he had a long sleeve fishing shirt stuffed in his pocket and a backpack stuffed into his pants. He also said Irons had been previously trespassed from Walmart and was not allowed on the property.
When interviewed, Irons allegedly told Officer Jackson that he went to Walmart with his girlfriend to shop and he went to the outdoor and fishing section of the store and then admitted he had shoved a black Realtree brand long sleeve shirt in his pocket along with a black No Boundaries brand backpack in his shorts. The shirt was priced at $15.48 and the backpack was priced at $7.50 for a total of $22.98. Irons also allegedly admitted that he knew he was previously trespassed from Walmart.
While Irons was being transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, he allegedly said he didn't completely make it out of the store with the items but he did admit he walked past the cashier section before being caught. Officer Jackson said that showed he did not intend to pay for the items.
Irons was booked into the Greene County Jail at 8:23 PM with bond set at $1500 surety with 10% cash allowed.
Irons is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on June 30 on charges of:
Theft, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
