Jasonville man accused of choking and punching another man

A Jasonville man is accused of strangulation and battery resulting in bodily injury after he allegedly started choking and punching another man during a disagreement over a guest in the house.

Devon Alexandre Anderson

Devon Alexandre Anderson, 23, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Dustin Cain of the Jasonville Police Department after Officer Cain was dispatched to an altercation late on Saturday, November 28. Anderson was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, November 29.

Officer Cain responded to a residence on South Meridian Street after a 911 caller said there was an issue between her brother, Devon Anderson, and her boyfriend and that Anderson had threatened to shoot her boyfriend. She said Anderson then walked out to his vehicle and got a gun then walked back into the house.

When Officer Cain arrived, Anderson was upstairs in a bedroom. Officer Ryan Van Horn then arrived, followed by other officers. While Officer Cain was speaking to the woman who called 911, Anderson came to the back door and stepped outside. He was ordered to keep his hands up and drop to his knees. Anderson complied and was taken into custody.

When Anderson was interviewed, he explained he had issues with his sister’s boyfriend and that he was upset the boyfriend had brought someone into the house that he didn’t think should be there. He admitted he had started punching the boyfriend in the face until his sister put Anderson in a choke hold.

When asked about going outside and getting a gun, Anderson allegedly said he went outside and grabbed a CO2 pistol then walked through the house to intimidate the others, then put the pistol in a drawer in his room. He said his CO2 pistol looked like a real Glock 9 mm. He said he did not threaten to shoot anyone.

When the sister, her boyfriend and the man who was not welcome by Anderson were all interviewed, they alleged Anderson was punching and also choking the boyfriend and also kicked him in the knee. After Anderson retrieved his gun, he was allegedly waiving it in the air saying the unwelcome man needed to leave before he shot him. Two of the witnesses said the gun looked like a Glock 9 mm.

The boyfriend had visible injuries and blood running down an arm – photographs were taken.

Inside a drawer in Anderson’s room, JPD Officers Van Horn and Andrew Duguay located a black Glock 9 mm style CO2 pistol.

Anderson’s bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.  He posted $500 and was released later the same day as his arrest.

Anderson is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing when he will be formally charged with:

  • Strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
