ISP investigating physical abuse of children in a Springville home, one arrest in Greene County
A Springville man accused of two violent felony charges, was arrested yesterday afternoon at his place of employment in Greene County. He was booked into the Greene County Jail. His wife was also arrested and booked into the Lawrence County Jail.
Scott Allen Blattert, Jr., 42, Springville, was booked into the Greene County Jail on Wednesday afternoon, November 6, following his arrest by Indiana State Police Trooper Richard Klun. Blattert was taken into custody at his place of employment on NSA Crane Naval Base in Greene County.
Indiana State Police were asked to assist the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) in an investigation into the physical abuse of juveniles in a home in the Springville area and on Thursday, October 31, ISP Trooper Julie Deel responded to the home on Armstrong Station Road.
When Trooper Deel arrived, she learned the residents, Scott and Cherry Blattert, have nine children.
As a result of this initial investigation, Scott Blattert was arrested and incarcerated in the Lawrence County Jail on preliminary charges of domestic battery, a Level 6 felony, and neglect of a dependent, a Level 5 felony. Scott Blattert posted bond and was released but the investigation was ongoing.
ISP Detective Zack Robbins continued the investigation of physical abuse of the children. Interviews were conducted then a search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence on Armstrong Station Road on Friday, November 1.
As a result of the continuing investigation, on Wednesday, November 6, warrants were issued for the arrest of both Cherry Blattert and Scott Blattert.
Later that same day, the ISP Bloomington A.C.E.S. (Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Section) along with Trooper Jon Patrick and Trooper Chance Humphrey arrested Cherry Blattert at the home.
Cherry Lynn Blattert, 38, Springville, was booked in to the Lawrence County Jail. She has since posted bond and been released.
Scott Blattert was not at the residence but it was determined he was at work on the naval base.
Trooper Richard Klun of the ISP Bloomington A.C.E.S. and K9 Loki, with assistance from the NSA Crane Police Department, located Scott Blattert at work. Blattert was taken into custody without incident then transported to the Greene County Jail.
Cherry Lynn Blattert is facing a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent, a Level 5 felony.
Scott Blattert, is now facing preliminary charges of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, and strangulation, a Level 6 felony.
Scott Blattert was being held without bond in Greene County and will be transferred to the Lawrence County Jail.
