Inmate charged with battery following a jailhouse fight
An inmate in the Greene County Jail is accused of hitting and kicking another inmate. The incident was stopped when a third inmate stepped in.
Logan Cofresi, 20, from Bloomington but currently an inmate in the Greene County Jail, appeared in Greene Superior Court yesterday morning for an initial hearing in a case filed following an investigation by Deputy Davis Aerne of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
Around 10:15 p.m. on Friday, April 24, Deputy Aerne was notified by dispatch that a fight had occurred in the jail. When he arrived, a jail officer said Cofresi had hit another inmate and the two inmates had been separated.
Deputy Aerne then interviewed the inmate who was struck but Cofresi said he wanted an attorney present. Deputy Aerne reported the inmate had bruising and redness under an eye, an abrasion on his forehead, red marks on a collar bone and he complained of pain in a shoulder.
Cofresi is accused of striking the inmate in the face three times causing the inmate to fall backwards into a wall and fall to the floor. Deputy Aerne said that when he viewed video surveillance, it appeared the inmate lost consciousness briefly and when he tried to sit up, Cofresi kicked him twice in a leg and hit him multiple times in the head while the inmate covered his head with his hands. Another inmate then came down from the upper level and pulled Cofresi away from the inmate.
Cofresi has been charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
