Indianapolis man arrested after fleeing traffic stop
/A 23-year-old Indianapolis man was arrested in the early morning hours of April 4 after fleeing a traffic stop.
Tyler J. Smith, 23, was taken into custody on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle and reckless driving. The arrest was made by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jordan Allor.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, Allor was monitoring traffic on Interstate 69 near the 102-mile marker when he observed two vehicles traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.
Allor attempted to stop both vehicles—a red 2002 Chevrolet Camaro and a bronze 2010 Nissan Murano. Both initially pulled to the shoulder, but the Nissan, driven by Smith, fled the stop and continued north into Monroe County.
The vehicle eventually left the roadway. Smith exited the car and fled on foot into a wooded area. He was located about 45 minutes later by a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputy.
While officers searched for Smith, Martinsville police found the abandoned Nissan in Morgan County.
Smith was booked into the Greene County Jail. His bond was set at $4,500 surety with 10% cash allowed.
Allor was assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Bloomington Police Department, Martinsville Police Department, Monroe County Fire, IU Health Ambulance Service, and Ken’s Westside Towing.
