IAFF Local 3087 to host Fire Ball
The Indiana Association of Fire Fighters Local 3087, a local labor union to which the City of Linton firefighters belong, is bringing back a popular fundraiser to help raise money for community outreach programs, scholarships, and other opportunities to give back and serve the community.
The group will host the Fire Ball on Oct. 14 at the Greene County Shrine Club.
“Our Union had a Firemen's Ball/Gala in the past, but the last one was so long ago. It used to be one of the biggest fundraisers our Union held, and it was a great time for everyone. Former Union President, now Fire Chief Colton Murray, had attempted to bring the Firemen's Ball back in 2020, but then COVID happened, and unfortunately, that had to be put on hold. Local 3087 would like to try it again,” said IAFF Local 3087 President James Phillips. “We renamed it the Fire Ball for this year, and we hope we can get it back to the fun event it was in the past, as well as become one of our largest fundraising events of the year.”
The semi-formal event will include a catered meal, live music, and door prizes. There will also be a silent auction.
Phillips said the event is open to everyone – not just firefighters.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fire-ball-linton-registration-688850740107?aff=oddtdtcreator&fbclid=IwAR3AuLSnUInkUDBRZsgdarTLJaCK9I9Z0Wd90f3_IzSWjmZwpM91oIh7e6g. No tickets will be sold at the door. The doors for the event open at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will allow the group to be more active in the community through opportunities such as community outreach programs, scholarships, and more.
“Some things Local 3087 held or donated to, in order to give back within the past year, were the 3-day drive-thru donation drive for the Sullivan tornado victims, Greene CASA House, the Back to School Bash, Linton-Stockton Sports Live Streaming, the free Movie Night at the Fire House, the Fire in the Hole Golf Scramble, as well as two $250 scholarships for chosen Linton graduates pursuing degrees in public safety or healthcare,” Phillips said. “We have even more events planned or things that we wish we could do or donate to, depending on funds.”
Businesses or individuals wishing to sponsor the event, Phillips said, would be greatly appreciated. Silent auction items would also be appreciated. Those wishing to become a sponsor or donate a silent auction item can contact Phillips via email at jphillips.lfd@gmail.com, by calling the fire station at (812) 847-4413, or by stopping by the fire station.
