Hunter facing misdemeanor for hunting deer over bait
A 33-year-old Shelburn man is accused of hunting deer with the aid of bait in Greene County.
Nicholas Parr, 33, Shelburn, is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing early tomorrow morning, Thursday, November 19.
Parr was allegedly deer hunting with a bow from a tree stand in Greene County when Indiana Conservation Officer Greg Swanson came along around 5:10 p.m. and noticed a brown mineral block on the ground within 15 yards of the tree stand.
Parr had a valid license to hunt deer with archery equipment. He said he put the block out in the summer, probably in August and he thought it would be gone by the time he hunted.
When asked if he knew it was illegal to hunt over bait, Parr questioned if the block was bait. ICO Swanson said it was. Parr said he had a feeder out earlier in the year but had taken it down. Parr said the block was a “Big Tine” brand mineral block. ICO Swanson noted he could see sunflower seeds also.
ICO Swanson issued a citation to Parr, with a court date.
Parr is facing a Class B misdemeanor.
