Greene County Sheriff’s Department warns residents of jury duty phone scam

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about fraudulent phone calls from someone claiming to represent the department.

According to the department, the caller tells residents they missed jury duty and may have a warrant for their arrest. The caller also threatens to initiate a criminal investigation if the person hangs up.

The scammer then requests payment to prevent the investigation or arrest warrant.

The calls are not from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department or any of its employees. Residents receiving such a call should not provide personal, financial or payment information.

The Sheriff’s Department emphasized that it will never call residents and demand payment over the phone.
