Greene County - On Monday, April 26, Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw released additional details and information from the investigation into three deaths in Owensburg. According to Holtsclaw, law enforcement officers from the Greene County Sheriffs Department and Indiana State Police responded to the Mason George residence near Owensburg, Indiana, on the afternoon of April 16, 2021, in response to a 911 call placed by Amanda Mosier at approximately 5:25 p.m. Ms. Mosier reported to dispatch that she had just discovered her daughter and two other people deceased inside the home. She believed they had all been shot.

Investigators at the scene verified the identities of the three individuals who were found deceased inside the home. They were identified as Mason George, age 22, George's girlfriend, Jessica Bixler, age 21, and Cole Bixler, age 14.  Autopsies of the three individuals were conducted by Dr. Roland Kohr, who determined that the cause of death for each was from a single gunshot wound to the head.

As a part of the investigation, detectives from the Greene County Sheriff s Department interviewed friends and family members of the three individuals who died. Crime Scene Technicians from the Indiana State Police processed the scene of the shootings inside the residence and seized evidence related to the shootings. Evidence from Cole Bixler's Snap Chat account was examined. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department also released a copy of the 911 call made by Amanda Mosier to this office for review.

Based upon the investigation conducted by the Greene County Sheriff s Department, no criminal charges will be filed. The investigation revealed that Cole Bixler shot Mason George while George appeared to be lying on his couch asleep. Bixler then shot his cousin, Jessica Bixler, in her bedroom, before then killing himself in the same room. Cole Bixler had spent the night at the George residence as a guest of his cousin, Jessica, and her boyfriend, Mason. Bixler had mentioned to others that he had been having thoughts of harming himself. Bixler used a handgun that was owned by Mason George to shoot Mason, Jessica and then himself.
