"BISSELL Pet Foundation is in constant communication with our shelter partners across the country and they are struggling with unprecedented increases in owner surrenders and longer stays for pets," said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. "With so many great pets waiting in shelters, our ‘Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope’ event is the perfect opportunity to save a life through adoption and create space to give another homeless pet a chance. If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering.”

The Greene County Humane Society has participated in several of these events in the past and it is always a great way to help get pets into forever homes. The Greene County Humane Society is open from 11AM-4PM Monday to Saturday and until 7PM on Fridays. All adoptions require an approved application so applying in advance is recommended.

Greene County Humane Society President Kegan Inman says "these events have been a wonderful thing for our shelter to be involved with. We participated in our first event in 2020 during the pandemic and it was a great way to get adoptions kicked back off. We have lately been overrun and running nearly at capacity for the past several months so I am really hoping that this event will open some kennels in the shelter to be able to help more animals."

BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. This lifesaving event began in 2016 with a goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption. Nearly 160,000 pets have found loving homes since its inception. “Empty the Shelters” is BISSELL Pet Foundation’s largest program, partnering with 560 animal welfare organizations in 47 states and Canada to reduce adoption fees. Pet adoption is a lifetime commitment, and not just for the holidays.

BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Greene County Humane Society urge families to do their research about the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as adoption requirements.
