Greene County Drug Task Force came knocking last weekend, Linton woman arrested this week
When officers of the Greene County Drug Task Force knocked on the door of an apartment in Linton last weekend, looking for a couple wanted on drug charges, they found them. They also spotted drugs in plain view and the woman who lived in the apartment was arrested this week.
Jodie L. McCarter, 48, Linton, answered her door when officers knocked late Saturday night, December 1.
Linton Police Officer Joseph Riley, the investigating officer, arrived at the apartment, located in Camelot Court in Linton, along with at least four other officers that included members of the Greene County Drug Task Force.
They were looking for a couple wanted in Knox County on warrants for felony dealing in methamphetamine and possession of controlled substances.
It was McCarter’s apartment, but the couple was also there, asleep in a bedroom. The couple, a man and a woman, were arrested, taken to jail, then transferred to Knox County. They are going to be facing new drug charges in Greene County.
Officer Riley said during the process of taking the two suspects into custody, officers reporting seeing items such as a glass smoking device with residue and a plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance sitting out in plain view.
During a subsequent search, Riley said they also found a glass smoking device with residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, hollow tubes containing residue, another smoking pipe that contained residue, and another straw with residue that field-tested positive for meth.
Officer Riley reported that when McCarter was questioned about these items, she allegedly admitted some of these items belonged to her. He said she also admitted she had used meth that same day.
McCarter was not immediately arrested. On Monday, a case was filed against her to charge her with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. On Tuesday, a warrant was issued for her arrest. On Wednesday, she was taken into custody by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Harvey Holt. On Friday morning, she’s scheduled to be in court for her initial hearing.
