Good choices can lead to safe New Year's Eve
Law enforcement officials are recommending good choices as a way to bring in the new year.
According to Linton Police Department Chief Paul Clark, good choices are the backbone of New Year’s Eve.
“The biggest thing is we want people to make good choices and understand the choices they are making can have consequences for themselves and other people,” Clark said. “Be vigilant of the choices you’re making, whether that be staying where you’re at, having a designated driver, or calling a friend for a ride. Those things will help keep people safe.”
If you’re planning on going to a bar or a party for New Year’s Eve, there are some tips for celebrating in a fun but safe way. Chief Clark recommends establishing a designated driver before leaving, never leaving your drink unattended, and always being vigilant of your environment.
Clark said that while officers will be out on their typical patrols, they’re going to be extra vigilant in identifying impaired drivers.
“The goal here isn’t to run up a bunch of arrests, put a bunch of people in jail, or affect people’s lives – it’s to keep people safe,” Clark said. “Our goal is to make sure everyone is as safe at the end of the night as they are at the beginning of the night.”
