A 35-year-old Bloomington man was arrested on Jan. 18 on charges of public intoxication after allegedly crossing the highway, waving to traffic in the area of State Roads 45 and 445. 

Brandon Ray Harden was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Devan Goad after Goad responded to a call that Harden was standing in the middle of the roadway, waving to cars. The caller stated Harden was dancing in the roadway and had possibly fallen into a ditch. 

When Deputy Goad arrived at the scene, Harden was standing on top of a steep hill. According to the probable cause affidavit, the way he was flailing his arms and yelling, he appeared to be in an argument with someone. Harden came down the hill and attempted to cross the road in front of oncoming traffic. When traffic stopped, Harden crossed the road to talk to Deputy Goad. 

Goad wrote in the probable cause affidavit that Harden was speaking in an excited manner, was having difficulty standing still, and had constricted pupils. He kept walking around until Goad allegedly told him to get away from the road before he got struck by a vehicle. 

When asked by Deputy Goad if he’d consumed any illegal substances, Harden allegedly admitted to consuming methamphetamine. He also stated the person he was yelling to at the top of the hill was himself. Deputy Stanley asked Harden a few questions; however, he could not focus on the question and began rapping and talking nonsense.

Deputy Goad spoke with the caller who reported the incident. He said Harden was on one side of the roadway and started spinning in circles into the roadway in front of oncoming traffic. He said Harden got into the middle of the roadway, stopped in front of vehicles, and started spinning again. 

Harden has been charged with public intoxication, a Class B Misdemeanor.

He was transported to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $500 surety with 10 percent cash allowed.
