Firefighters respond to fire at family home in Worthington
Firefighters from the Worthington Fire Territory responded to a house fire on Terre Haute Road in Worthington Monday morning, April 6. No injuries were reported but a family with children has lost their home.
Worthington Fire Chief Kyle Steward said firefighters from the Switz City Volunteer Fire Department and the Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded and assisted on the scene.
The home at 211 West Terre Haute Road was located next to an alley on the south side of Terre Haute Road, between Dayton and Myra streets.
Steward said the call came in just after 10 a.m., they arrived quickly and had the fire under control within 15 minutes after arrival. Firefighters returned to the scene around noon to extinguish a rekindle.
Steward did not speculate as to the cause of the fire but said the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office will visit the scene sometime tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7.
Steward reported the fire was located in one room and the attic but the entire home suffered heat and smoke damage.
The residents, Brando and Samantha Chambers, and their children ranging from toddler age up to around 11 years old, exited the house without injury and were connected to the fire department’s chaplain and the American Red Cross for assistance.
