Ex-girlfriend accused of blowing up a man’s mailbox

The mailbox of an eastern Greene County man exploded in mid-June. His ex-girlfriend is accused of causing the damage by detonating a firework inside the mailbox. She was in court this week, charged with criminal mischief.

Alisyn Dyer, 24, Gosport, appeared in Greene Superior Court on Monday, August 3, for an initial hearing. She’s been charged with criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

Deputy Camron Frye was dispatched to a residence on East Shady Meadows in eastern Greene County on Saturday, June 13, to investigate a complaint of criminal mischief.

When he arrived, a resident said he was not home when the incident occurred but when he got home, his uncle told him what happened.

When Deputy Frye talked to the uncle, he said around 6:30 p.m. that day, he was in his yard and saw a silver car stop at the resident’s mailbox. He said he saw Alisyn Dyer get out and put something in the mailbox. The uncle said as he was approaching the mailbox to see what she left, the mailbox exploded. He said mail fell all over the ground and he gathered it up.

The resident said Alisyn Dyer was an ex-girlfriend but did not live there and had moved out a month earlier.

The deputy reported the door to the mailbox was open and seams where the metal came together on the mailbox were blown apart. He saw red-colored paper inside – it appeared to be from a detonated firework.

Deputy Frye later located Dyer at an address on East Tulip Road. Dyer denied knowing anything about the mailbox incident and said she had not been back to that residence since she moved out about a month earlier. When asked what kind of vehicle she drives, she said she drives a gold passenger car that belongs to a family member. Deputy Frye noted that vehicle did not match the description of the silver car she allegedly was driving on the day the mailbox was damaged.

Deputy Frye submitted the results of his investigation to the prosecutor’s office, a case was filed against Dyer and she was summoned to appear in court.
