An Evansville man was arrested on Dec. 11 after failing to appear at his initial hearing in a case involving the theft of several bottles of anti-diarrhea medicine during six stops at a local store.

Greene County Sherriff’s Department Deputy Zach Mead arrested 50-year-old Matthew Kolb on Dec. 11 on a warrant for theft. The warrant was issued Oct. 17 after Kolb failed to appear for his initial hearing, scheduled on Oct. 16.

On May 12, Linton Police Department Officer JR Blaizer was contacted by an Asset Protection Associate (APA) at Walmart concerning Kolb taking multiple bottles of anti-diarrhea medication – a total value of $79.84 – without rendering payment. According to the probable cause affidavit, 24 medication bottles were taken over six days, including April 8, April 11, April 12, April 16, April 19, and April 20.

On May 8, an APA requested to have Kolb trespassed from the property. According to the probable cause affidavit, the APA stated Kolb was in the store but he didn’t believe Kolb had any stolen items on him.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Blazier was provided with statements from APAs and video footage from each incident. During each incident, Kolb could be seen taking the medication to the toy section, concealing it, and disposing of the packaging on shelving units.

Kolb was arrested on Dec. 11 and transported to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He was released after posting $500.

He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Dec. 18 for an initial hearing.
