A Worthington man who allegedly crossed the center line in the Linton area several times, crossed the fog line several times and almost ran off the road early Sunday was stopped then arrested.

Paul Artem McHenry, 30, Worthington, was arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department early Sunday, April 4.

Officer Franklin initiated a traffic stop at 1:53 a.m. last Sunday on a white Ford Fusion for crossing the center line. Officer Franklin was traveling on State Road 59 near County Road 500 North when he saw the vehicle cross the line four times, cross the white fog line approximately five times and nearly run off the road.

McHenry was identified as the driver who became upset during the stop and was asked to get out of the vehicle after the officer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage. McHenry refused to get out of the vehicle three times and didn’t get out until the officer reached in to unlock the door and open it. Officer Franklin reported that McHenry then got into his face and was handcuffed.

After LPD Officers Nick Yingling and Bobby Pierce arrived to assist, McHenry allegedly failed standard field sobriety testing and exhibited signs of impairment that indicated use of controlled substances such as quick speech, jittery movements, twitching and jaw clenching.

McHenry refused to take a chemical test, invoked his rights and asked for his attorney. McHenry allegedly attempted to pull away from the officer when he was being placed in a patrol vehicle for transport to the police department.

Once at the police department, McHenry allegedly again failed standard field sobriety testing. A search warrant was issued and McHenry was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw before being transported to the Greene County Jail.

During an inventory prior to towing McHenry’s vehicle, officers reported finding a Ziploc bag containing a white residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

McHenry is facing preliminary charges of:

• Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

• Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor, and

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was initially held without bond pending his appearance in court.
