When a Bloomfield driver, facing multiple criminal counts, showed up in court today for his initial hearing, courthouse security took him into custody on an outstanding warrant before the hearing took place. Now he's back in jail and his hearing will have to be rescheduled.

Dustin Tyler Thompson, 32, Bloomfield, was arrested by Lieutenant Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department early Thursday, April 8, as a result of an incident that began late Wednesday, April 7.

Thompson bonded out of jail and was facing multiple criminal charges when he appeared for his initial hearing earlier today, Monday, April 18. But when he arrived at the courthouse, courthouse security arrested him on an outstanding warrant before his initial hearing was conducted.

Around 8:45 PM on Wednesday, April 7, Greene County Dispatch put out a call about a possible reckless driver who was westbound on State Road 54 in the Bloomfield area. Dispatch said the speed of a beige Buick LeSabre was fluctuating and the vehicle had almost gone into a ditch.

Lieutenant Holt responded and so did Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Bobby Just who located the vehicle first. Deputy Just got behind the vehicle, observed the driving behavior and initiated a traffic stop. Deputy Just reported he did not smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage but he believed the driver was under the influence because the driver's speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot.

When Lieutenant Holt talked to the driver, identified as Thompson, he reported Thompson's bloodshot eyes were halfway open and when Thompson was asked to get out of his car, he allegedly had to pull himself from the vehicle, then he fell against his vehicle and had to lean against it to keep from falling over. He allegedly admitted that he had smoked marijuana two days prior to the stop and that he had taken xanax prior to driving.

Thompson allegedly failed standard field sobriety testing and refused to take a chemical test. A search warrant was approved and a blood draw was obtained - results pending.

Thompson was booked into the Greene County jail at 12:45 AM on April 8 with bond set at $8000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He posted $800 and was later released.

Thompson was scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court this morning for his initial hearing but before court convened, he was arrested on an outstanding warrant in a previous case on a petition to revoke a suspended sentence for a conviction of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction. He will be held without bond.

In the latest case, when his initial hearing is rescheduled, Thompson will be formally charged with:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a prior within seven years, a Level 6 felony,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, a Level 6 felony,
Operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, a Level 6 felony, and
Possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.
