Employee accused of theft

An employee is accused of crediting money from several return transactions to his personal debit card. When the employer discovered the questionable transactions, they called the police and the employee is facing a preliminary charge of theft.

James R. Hamilton, 33, Linton, is facing a preliminary charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor, in connection with an investigation by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department.

Officer McDonald was dispatched in late November to the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store in Linton where Hamilton was an employee.

Officer McDonald talked to one of the company’s asset protection associates who explained an audit of Hamilton’s employee number had turned up questionable transactions.

The asset protection associate alleged that Hamilton had returned items in the computer and put the credit on his own personal debit card. She provided a copy of the receipts from six transactions.

When Hamilton was interviewed at the Linton Police Department, he allegedly said that he did what he was accused of doing. He said when he returned the items, he did put the credit on his personal Bank of America debit card.

Officer McDonald reported the total amount of these transactions that was credited to his debit card totaled $1,064.58.
