Elsewhere: Ten-year-old on bicycle struck and killed by vehicle in Lawrence County
Lawrence County – Wednesday, December 23, at approximately 5:43 p.m., Indiana State Police, Lawrence County Sheriff Department, Oolitic Police Department, Oolitic Fire Department and Seals Ambulance Service responded to Vista Drive near Meadow Lane in Oolitic, Indiana, for a vehicle versus bicycle accident.
Upon arriving, emergency personnel found a 10-year-old male child unresponsive. A bystander was giving medical care to the child and upon their arrival, the Oolitic Police Department provided assistance. The child was then transported by ambulance to IU Health in Bedford where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that a 2016 Jeep, driven by 45-year-old Matthew Nikirk of Bedford, Indiana, was traveling northbound on Vista Drive when his vehicle struck the child who was riding a bicycle. The child has been identified as Camden Moore, age 10, Oolitic, Indiana.
Family has been notified and an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, December 24.
Indiana State Police investigators are on scene conducting a crash reconstruction.
ISP Trooper Cody Brown, the lead investigator, is assisted by ISP Sgt. Eric Russell and Master Trooper John Yung.
