STATEHOUSE (Oct. 12, 2022) – State Rep. Jeff Ellington (R-Bloomfield) said several schools in Greene County recently received more than $221,000 through the state's Secured Schools Safety Grant Program.

Ellington said the local funding is part of this year's record-breaking school safety investments totaling more than $22.9 million in matching state grants headed to 425 schools across Indiana.

"There are many options schools can use to ensure the safety of their students and staff," Ellington said. "These grants have gone a long way toward making sure Indiana classrooms are secure."

Schools receiving grant funds in Greene County include:

Bloomfield School District, $44,666;
Eastern Greene Schools, $61,900;
Linton-Stockton School Corp., $50,000;
MSD Shakamak Schools, $15,000; and
White River Valley School District, $49,999.

Funds can be used for resource officers and law enforcement officers in schools, equipment and technology, active event warning systems, firearms training for teachers and staff who choose to allow guns on school property, threat assessments, and to implement a student and parent support services program.

In total, the state invested about $133 million in matching grants through the Secured School Fund, established through a law passed in 2013.
