Early morning arrest in downtown Bloomfield noticed by people on their way to work and school
A traffic stop initiated on a vehicle for crossing the center line in the morning hours of April 25 resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old Linton man on a handful of charges.
Jordan Scott Enochs was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Devan Goad on charges of possession of methamphetamine; unlawful carrying of a handgun-prior felony conviction within the last 15 years; operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person; operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a prior conviction within seven years; operating a vehicle while intoxicated-first offense and no endangerment; and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years.
Greene County Dispatch received a call regarding a Buick Century traveling all over the roadway. The caller told Dispatch they believed the driver may be intoxicated based on their driving.
Deputy Goad began traveling westbound from Bloomfield when he spotted a small passenger car traveling eastbound toward him. The vehicle crossed the center line just west of town limits. Deputy Goad then turned around and began following the vehicle to observe the driving. When the vehicle, driven by Enochs, passed Bloomfield Park, it crossed the center line and then jerked back into the eastbound lane.
Deputy Goad informed Dispatch he was going to initiate a traffic stop and activated his emergency lights just west of the intersection of Jefferson Street and Main Street. Enochs continued eastbound through Bloomfield. After the vehicle continued another block, he activated the sirens on his patrol vehicle. According to the probable cause affidavit, Bloomfield Town Marshal Kenny Tharp went around Enochs’s car, positioning the vehicle in between the two police vehicles. Enochs then pulled over at the intersection of Main Street and Washington Street. Enochs traveled three blocks before submitting to the traffic stop.
When Deputy Goad informed Enochs he had been called in to Dispatch as a possible reckless driver, Enochs alleged he had been falling asleep at the wheel. In the probable cause affidavit, Deputy Goad noted there have been previous calls in which Enochs’s vehicle had been called in for reckless driving; however, the vehicle was unable to be located. From previous incidents, Deputy Sipes was aware Enochs's driver’s license was suspended with a prior conviction.
When Enochs stepped out of the vehicle, he was placed in handcuffs. Deputy Goad alleged his speech was slurred and he mumbled making it unable to understand what he was saying. When asked if he had consumed any narcotics, he said he had not taken any but had muscle relaxers for his shoulder. During this time, Deputy Goad alleged Enochs was unable to stand still and swayed side to side. Deputy Goad again asked if he had taken any narcotics. Enochs alleged he had not taken any, but said he can’t stay awake after his shoulder injury.
Enochs submitted to and failed a standardized field sobriety test. Enochs was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw. According to the probable cause affidavit, while being transported to the hospital, Enochs could not stay awake and kept falling asleep. Enochs's blood sample has been sent to the Indiana State Department of Toxicology, results pending.
While Deputy Goad went to the hospital with Enochs for the blood draw, Town Marshal Tharp and Deputy Zach Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department conducted an inventory of Enochs’s vehicle. Located during the search were: two .22 caliber handguns, a plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance, a baggie containing another baggie with a crystal-like substance inside, a black keychain with a knife attached containing orange pills, black digital scales, and a cellophane wrapper containing green plant-like material. The white-crystal-like substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
On Sept. 14, 2022, Enochs was convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated while endangering a person. On June 17, 2021, he was convicted of battery against a safety official, which makes him unable to be in possession of a handgun, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Enochs was transported to Greene County Jail where he was initially held without bond pending court appearance. When he appeared in Greene Superior Court on April 27, a bond of $30,000 cash only, no 10% allowed was set.
Enochs has been charged with:
