Drug charge filed after JPD investigates report of suspicious activity
A summons to appear in Greene Superior Court has been issued for a Jasonville man following an incident at the Shakamak Motel.
Jasonville Police Department Chief Ryan Van Horn was called to the Shakamak Motel regarding a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Upon arrival, Chief Van Horn found Austin Hollifield behind the wheel of a gray Cadillac, the vehicle deemed suspicious by the motel manager.
While explaining to Hollifield while he was making contact with him, Van Horn, according to the probable cause affidavit, could smell burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Hollifield and a passenger were asked to exit the vehicle. When Hollifield exited, he allegedly told Van Horn he had a joint in his cigarette pack, then handed the pack to the officer.
Upon opening the cigarette pack, Van Horn observed a partially smoked self-rolled cigarette
that was mixed in with the other cigarettes. The self-roll cigarette contained plant-like material that based on Van Horn’s knowledge and training he believed it to be marijuana.
When Van Horn detained Hollifield in handcuffs, for his own safety he removed several knives from Hollifield. During a search of Hollifield’s vehicle, a metal pipe containing burnt residue was found. A black handgun, later identified as an airsoft pistol, was also located.
Hollifield was released but informed he would receive paperwork to appear in court.
He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court Devc. 15 where he will be officially charged with:
Possession or marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor
