Driver on way to graduation ceremony to be charged with reckless driving

A driver in a big hurry to get to a graduation ceremony was most likely late. He got stopped on the way by a trooper who reported he was going 85 in a 50 mph zone.

Jacob D. Stuart, 20, Bloomfield, was stopped by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Eric Nash around 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, in eastern Greene County.

Trooper Nash was on patrol that morning when he saw a silver passenger car traveling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed down a hill behind him. The car was westbound on State Road 445 west of SR 45.

Trooper Nash activated his rear radar and reported the car was traveling at 85 mph in a 50 mph zone. He activated the lights and the car stopped immediately.

Stuart was the driver. He allegedly said he knew he was going fast and he was running late for a graduation ceremony that started in one minute. He was trying to get to Eastern Greene High School.

Stuart is now facing a charge of reckless driving at an unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.

He is being summoned to appear in court for an initial hearing in July.
