Driver didn’t have valid licenses to drive or carry a handgun

An officer reported a driver with only one working headlight did not have a license to carry the handgun found in his vehicle.

Travis Glenn St. John, 36, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department late last Wednesday, July 7.

St. John was the driver of a silver Dodge Caravan traveling in Linton last Wednesday with only one working headlight. He was pulled over by Officer Franklin at 9:51 p.m. St. John’s driver’s license was suspended and he allegedly said he knew it was suspended. Records show St. John was convicted of driving while suspended in late May.

Prior to towing the vehicle, an inventory was taken and Officer Franklin reported officers found a smoking device containing a green plant material that field-tested positive as marijuana, a bottle of 21 white pills identified as acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate which is a controlled substance, and a black Jimenez Arms .380 handgun with a loaded magazine in the gun but no bullet in the chamber.

A female passenger said the items belonged to St. John and St. John also said the items were his. The passenger was released from the scene. St. John was transported and booked in at 11:42 p.m. to the Greene County Jail where he was being held without bond pending court appearance.

The date for St. John’s initial hearing is not yet known but a criminal case was filed against him last Friday in Greene Superior Court. He’s facing charges of:

  • Possession of a controlled substance with an enhancing circumstance, a Level 6 felony,

  • Carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Driving while suspended – a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
