A driver stopped on the side of the road with his car still running didn’t respond when a trooper first knocked on his window.

Kyle Robert Lee, 31, Loogootee, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Curtis Wilder on Wednesday, April 21. Lee was booked into the Greene County Jail at 4:39 a.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance then last Thursday during his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court, his bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since bonded out of jail.

Trooper Wilder was northbound on I-69 when he noticed a gold Buick passenger car had pulled over and stopped on the shoulder near the 104 mile marker. The Buick was running, with the lights on. Trooper Wilder stopped and approached the Buick but had a hard time getting the driver’s attention.

Trooper Wilder said he knocked on the driver’s window but the driver did not respond. He then banged on the window and the driver finally opened his eyes and looked at the trooper. When the trooper identified himself, the driver allegedly said, “Nope, I’m good,” then put the vehicle into drive though not driving away.

Kyle Robert Lee was identified as the driver, who said he didn’t need medical attention but the trooper reported Lee exhibited signs of impairment including talking fast, breathing fast and shallow and not making eye contact.

Lee failed two parts of standard field sobriety testing but would not consent to a blood draw. A search warrant for a blood sample was approved and a sample was obtained at Greene County General Hospital – results pending.

During a search of his vehicle, a digital scale was allegedly located with a white crystal substance.

When Lee was taken into custody, a syringe was found in a jeans pocket along with a folded-up piece of aluminum foil with an unknown powder substance inside, located in a jacket pocket. The unknown powder substance later field-tested positive as heroin.

Lee has been charged with possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony, and unlawful possession of syringe, a Level 6 felony.
