A driver was arrested and has been charged with OVWI after she tested with a BAC of .151 last Friday night. A GCSD deputy reported she was stopped for driving left of center.

Cristi Dee Sutphin, 56, Linton, was arrested by Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Friday, April 8.

Around 8:25 p.m. last Friday, Sgt. Allor was westbound on West Scotland Newberry Road when he saw a westbound blue 2020 Toyota Rav4 driving west in the eastbound lane near South Dove Hill Road. He said after going left of center again while going around a right-hand curve, the vehicle got back in the westbound lane but as it went into a left-hand curve, it went completely into the eastbound lane and touched the edge of the roadway. A traffic stop was initiated.

With assistance from Deputy Logan Milligan, the driver was identified as Sutphin, who said she was talking on her phone. Sgt. Allor reported he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Sutphin and that she showed other signs of impairment including slurred speech and glassy eyes.

Sutphin failed standard field sobriety testing on the scene and was transported to the sheriff’s department where she failed again. Sutphin agreed to take a chemical breath test. Results showed she had an alcohol concentration of .151 – the legal limit is .08.

Sutphin was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:07 p.m. with bond set at $4,000 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. She posted $400 and was released on April 9.

A criminal case was filed against Sutphin earlier today but Sutphin’s defense has waived the initial hearing.

Sutphin has been charged with:

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and

• Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
