A Jasonville man who ran off the road and crashed into a tree on Monday was arrested after a bag of cocaine was allegedly found in his vehicle.

William Scott Jeffrey, 21, Jasonville, was arrested by Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Monday, April 12. Jeffrey was booked into the Greene County Jail at 5:11 p.m. following a crash.

Last Monday, a one-vehicle crash was reported on West State Road 48, Jasonville, where a vehicle had crashed into a tree.

Deputy Carpenter was dispatched but Jasonville Police Officer Andrew Duguay also responded and located the driver near the crash. William Scott Jeffrey was identified as the driver and Officer Duguay reported Jeffrey kept wanting to vomit and EMS was needed.

Deputy Carpenter said Jeffrey had been driving a green 2016 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on State Road 48 and for an unknown reason, ran off the west side of the road and crashed into a tree. The air bags deployed and the vehicle had heavy front end damage.

Officer Duguay reported finding several “roaches” in one of Jeffrey’s pockets. One field-tested positive as marijuana.

Deputy Carpenter reported finding a plastic bag in the vehicle, on the middle console in plain view. The bag contained a powder substance that field-tested positive as cocaine.

A records check revealed Jeffrey’s driver’s license was suspended with a prior.

Jeffrey was transported to Greene County General Hospital where he requested an attorney. A search warrant was approved for a blood draw which was performed at the hospital – results pending.

Jeffrey was then transported to jail where he was being held without bond pending court appearance. As of late Wednesday, April 14, he’s still in jail and the date of his initial hearing is not known.

Jeffrey is being charged with possession of a narcotic drug – cocaine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
