After a woman accused of driving while intoxicated was detained and waiting for a search warrant to be issued for a blood draw last week, she allegedly caused herself to vomit then licked a table saying she had COVID, urinated on the chairs and floor at the police department, and continued with other inappropriate behavior both at the police department and when she arrived at the jail.

Courtney Elayne Knight, 25, Bloomington, was arrested by Deputy William C. Walker of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early last Tuesday, September 21.

Around 1 a.m. that Tuesday when Deputy Walker was on patrol, he said he saw a silver 2001 Dodge Dakota fail to use a turn signal four different times and fail to stop at a stop sign one time, all in the Bloomfield area. He initiated a traffic stop on East State Road 54. Knight was identified as the driver. Because the deputy could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, Knight was asked to exit but allegedly leaned on the truck for balance. He reported she showed several other signs of intoxication.

Knight allegedly failed field sobriety testing on the scene and could not successfully complete a test on a portable breathalyzer. She was transported to the Linton Police Department where she again failed field sobriety testing and refused to take a chemical test.

After the refusal, Knight was taken to an interview room to sit in a chair while Deputy Walker applied for a search warrant for a blood draw. Deputy Walker reported that while she was sitting in the interview room, Knight put her fingers down her throat to make herself vomit then when Greene County Rescue arrived so EMS could check on her, she refused medical treatment, spit on the floor multiple times, threw used tissues on the floor, licked sticky notes and put them in the middle of the box of tissues, licked the desk, and told officers she had COVID. She also licked and spit on the “Data Master” used to take the chemical tests.

Linton Police Officer Alan Jackson attempted to assist by putting Knight in handcuffs and moving her to a different chair. She allegedly then urinated in her pants, slipped out of the handcuffs and took her shoes, socks, jeans and underwear off, put herself back in handcuffs and refused to put her pants back on. When she did put her underwear back on, she allegedly sat down and urinated on all three chairs in the interview room.

After the warrant was issued and she was to be transported to Greene County General for a blood draw, she allegedly urinated on the police department floor on the way out. Once at the hospital, the blood draw was taken but she allegedly threatened to defecate on Deputy Walker.

After her arrival at the sheriff’s department, she did eventually put on a pair of jail pants after taking her underwear off again and rubbing them across the hood of a patrol vehicle along with every door handle on the way into the jail from the sally port.

When jail staff shackled her to a bench in the booking area, she allegedly told them, “I’m going to sit here and masturbate.”

She was booked in at 4:18 a.m. with bond set at $12,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She has since posted bond and been released.

Knight is due to be in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing next week on charges of:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor,
Possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Refusal to aid an officer, a Class B misdemeanor.
