Glenn Edward Pursell

Glenn Edward Pursell, 47, Freedom, was arrested on Monday, November 25, by Deputy Marshal Russell Walls of the Worthington Police Department.

Pursell was driving red SUV southbound on State Road 67 south of Worthington when Officer Walls noticed him around 3:50 p.m. Walls was headed toward Worthington, driving his patrol vehicle northbound on the highway, north of the State Road 57 flasher light when he saw Pursell’s vehicle approaching at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. Walls activated the radar on his dash and clocked Pursell going 100 mph in a 55 mph speed zone, while passing other vehicles.

Walls turned around, hit the lights and sirens, and attempted to catch up though Pursell did not appear to be slowing down until he turned to head west on West County Road 325 North. Walls finally did catch up and Pursell pulled over at the intersection of County Roads West 325 North and North 600 West.

According to Walls, Pursell said he was not used to the car and he had just passed a vehicle. When asked if he was attempting to evade the officer, he said he always takes the back way to Walmart. Walls told him he also appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed on the county road.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore also arrived on the scene to assist.

Pursell was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Greene County Jail. His vehicle was towed. Bond was set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

Pursell is being charged with reckless driving at unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Monday afternoon for his initial hearing.
