Disagreement over the television leads to physical fight in jail
/Two inmates in the Greene County Jail are facing new charges after an argument over the television turned into a pushing and punching physical fight.
Bradley Eugene Sparks, 44, and Shayne C. Weaver, 43, were both inmates in E Block when they got into a disagreement on October 18.
After a jail officer broke up the fight, GCSD Deputy Alan Jackson was called in to investigate.
Deputy Jackson reviewed video from the jail’s surveillance system that showed the two were arguing over the wall-mounted television in E Block. Weaver was arguing then became belligerent, was yelling and moved toward Sparks aggressively.
Deputy Jackson said it escalated and the two grabbed hold of each other and Sparks began punching Weaver in the head while Weaver was pushing Sparks up against a wall. Weaver allegedly put his hand on the throat of Sparks while pushing him. Sparks continued to punch. When Sparks was pushed into a wall-mounted microwave, items were knocked from shelves and then a jail officer entered the area to split the two up.
A criminal case was filed in Greene Superior Court this week against both inmates. The dates for their initial hearings is not known but when they appear, they both will be charged with battery, a Class B misdemeanor.
