Deputies and officers respond to large party where underage kids were drinking
An 18-year-old Jasonville man is facing misdemeanor charges of minor possession of alcohol after officers from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Jasonville Police Department responded to a March 17 call of a large party where several underage kids were consuming alcohol.
According to a probable cause filed in Greene Superior Court on April 18, Deputy Kelly Hutchens arrived on the scene of the party on County Road 1600 West in Jasonville at approximately 12:01 a.m. on March 18. She was joined by fellow Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Camron Frye and Jasonville Police Officer Dustin Cain. Hutchens observed several cars in the driveway as well as several parked along the side of the roadway. According to the probable cause affidavit, Hutchens saw several individuals who appeared to be juveniles looking out the windows of the residence. Hutchens observed one juvenile sitting on the porch and two other individuals, one a juvenile and one later identified as Kayne A. Wade sitting by a swing set.
Hutchens wrote that she knocked on the door of the residence with no answer. She wrote she observed several juveniles inside the residence, but once they spotted her, they appeared to hide within the residence. Looking inside the residence, Hutchens could see multiple opened containers of alcohol sitting on the counters inside the residence. Deputy Frye observed a list, similar to a party list with several names written on it, just inside the door.
When Deputy Hutchens asked one of the juveniles why he was sitting outside, he said he was hot. While informing the juvenile of why officers were at the residence, the second juvenile and Wade approached. Both juveniles and Wade were advised to contact their parents. Hutchens spoke with the parents, informed them of the situation, and asked them to pick the individuals up. While further speaking with the three individuals, they alleged the homeowners were not present and possibly out to dinner.
Wade asked if he could grab alcohol near the swing set and pour it out. He returned with an unopened can of Twister Tea, opened it, and poured the contents to the ground. Wade alleged he arrived at the residence around 8:30 p.m. and had been drinking – about four to five Twisted Teas. When asked if everyone else at the party had been drinking, Wade, according to the probable cause, said “as far as I know”.
Wade submitted to a portable breath test with a result of 0.108.
Wade is facing charges of minor possession of alcohol, a Class C Misdemeanor.
