When a couple of deputies assisted a DCS caseworker visiting a home last week, they saw evidence of drug use in plain view and requested a search warrant.

Brittany Nicole Johnson, 30, Bloomfield, and Todd Earl Bryant, 30, Solsberry, were arrested by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and booked into jail around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, July 13.

Both were in court for initial hearings this past Monday, July 20. Johnson was then released on her own recognizance. Bryant’s bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Wednesday, July 22, he had not yet posted bond and remained in jail.

Deputy Jackson, the investigating officer, was dispatched around 5 p.m. on Monday, July 13, along with Deputy Camron Frye, to a residence on North Lawrence Hollow Drive in rural Bloomfield to assist a DCS (Department of Child Services) caseworker in speaking with Johnson.

Johnson did not want the DCS caseworker to go inside her residence but she agreed to let the two deputies go inside. They then learned Bryant was also inside. While there, one of the deputies saw a smoking device with burnt residue in plain sight on a dresser. Johnson denied consent to search the residence. Johnson and Bryant were then transported to the sheriff’s department and a search warrant was requested.

When the warrant was executed a little after 7 p.m., deputies reported finding smoking devices with residues, plastic bags with residues, various containers, aluminum foils, a metal grinder and other items of paraphernalia. Some items field-tested positive for the presence of marijuana, others for methamphetamine.

Johnson was cooperative and allegedly admitted which items belonged to her. Bryant denied an interview and did not want to talk to Deputy Jackson.

In court Monday, Johnson was charged with possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.

Bryant, who also has other cases pending against him, was charged with:

• Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

• Possession of paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor, and

• Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
