Couple arrested after fight in their front yard
A couple arrested Saturday is accused of getting into a violent fight in their front yard with a baby grandchild nearby. The woman allegedly was hitting the man with a cooking pot and the man was allegedly hitting the woman with a chair.
William Gillis Arney, 48, and Dawn Renee Arnie, 48, both of Solsberry, were both arrested by Deputy Harvey Holt of the Greene County Sheriff's Department last Saturday morning, May 7.
Deputy Holt was dispatched after a caller reported an active physical fight between a man and a woman in a front yard on East Tulip Road around 10:30 Saturday morning.
The couple was later identified as William Gillis Arney and Dawn Renee Arnie who had previously been married but were now living at the residence as roommates. During the investigation, Deputy Holt determined they had children in common and two grandchildren in common who were at the home and witnessed verbal and physical altercations.
The caller said she saw the woman hitting the man with a cooking pot and she thought the man was using a chair to hit the woman. She also saw the man push the woman down and grab her after hitting her. The caller also said the altercation appeared to be mutual as they were both attacking each other. While this was going on, the witness saw a baby wearing diapers outside with the couple.
After interviewing both individuals, they were both taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail. William Gillis Arnie was booked in at 11:43 AM with bond set at $4000 surety with 10% cash allowed. Dawn Renee Arnie was booked in at 12:13 PM with bond also set at $4000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
Criminal cases were filed against both in Greene Superior Court earlier today. When they appear at their initial hearings, both of them will be facing a charge of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony.
