Charges filed in rape case
/Three felony counts have been filed against a man suspected of an alleged rape last week in Linton.
Charges involving an alleged rape were filed Friday against Gerald Leroy Thompson, Jr., 30.
Thompson is being held without bond in the Greene County Jail following his arrest early last Wednesday, July 21, by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department who was conducting an investigation into an incident that occurred late Tuesday night, July 20.
Thompson is expected to appear in Greene Superior Court tomorrow afternoon, July 27, when he will be formally charged with:
Rape – compelled by force or imminent threat of force, a Level 3 felony,
Domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony, and
Confinement, a Level 6 felony.
A woman reported the incident to the Linton Police Department before 1 a.m. last Wednesday. LPD Officers Bobby Pierce and Janzen Franklin were dispatched to take the initial report and they contacted Det. Hobbs around 2:18 a.m.
According to Det. Hobbs, the alleged victim said Thompson had fallen asleep at her residence and after waking him, he was asked to leave around 11:30 p.m. last Tuesday. She alleged they walked to the door and he made a sexual advance which she declined but he put his hand over her mouth, the other behind her head, pulled her into a bedroom and closed the door. She said she was raped by Thompson and that he was repeatedly asked to stop.
A juvenile was present in the residence at the time of the incident and told an officer of hearing the woman saying “stop” and “no.” During an interview at Susie’s Place, the witness said she heard “pushing” in the hallway and was afraid Thompson was going to do something bad to the woman.
Det. Hobbs wanted to interview Thompson and Thompson drove from Bloomfield to the police department in Linton but he invoked his right to attorney, then was arrested and transported to jail.
Since the time of his arrest, another criminal case involving a charge of intimidation was filed against him and his bond was revoked in yet another pending case involving a charge of failure to return to lawful detention.
