Bond set at $50,000 for Linton man on meth charge

A warrant has been out since mid-March for the arrest of a Linton man accused of methamphetamine possession. He was taken into custody last Friday night and yesterday afternoon when he appeared in court, his bond was set at $50,000 with ten percent cash allowed.

Jeffery Edward Schickel

Jeffery Edward Schickel, 56, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Friday night, July 3, on a warrant that was issued after an investigation by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department earlier this year.

Shortly before midnight back on February 28, Sgt. Hobbs was on patrol with LPD Officer John Agan when they checked the record for a license plate on a Pontiac G6 near the intersection of State Road 54 and County Road 1300 West in Linton. The car was registered to Schickel and a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was Meagan Schickel and she was wanted on a warrant for her arrest. She was taken into custody and transported to jail.

Jeffery Schickel was a passenger. A BMV check revealed Jeffery Schickel did not have a valid driver’s license so the vehicle was towed due to lack of a licensed driver.

During the required inventory for towing, LPD Officers Kyle Robison and Nick Yingling reported finding a clear plastic bag with a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. They said there was a digital scale openly laying in the floorboard within Jeffery Schickel’s reach from where he had been sitting.

A criminal case was filed against Jeffery Schickel and a warrant issued for his arrest on March 15. The warrant has remained outstanding until he was taken into custody last Friday.

Schickel was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:07 p.m.

Yesterday afternoon, Schickel appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing via two-way video between the jail and the courtroom. He was formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and his bond was set at $50,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

Schickel has another case pending against him in Greene County, also involving possession of methamphetamine.

As of this late this afternoon, Schickel had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.
