A Linton man accused of failure to register as a sex offender has been arrested. When an officer talked to him on the phone earlier this month, he said he was “way out of town.” This morning, he’s in jail with bond set at $10,000 cash only.

Kevin Lee Corns, 34, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Zach Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and booked into the Greene County Jail around 12:24 a.m. today, Tuesday, July 23.

Corns was taken into custody on a warrant issued on a preliminary charge of failure to register as a sex offender, with a prior conviction for failure to register, a Level 5 felony, and on two Writs of Attachment. On one Writ issued out of Greene County, bond is set at $100 cash. On the other Writ issued out of Brown County, bond is unknown.

Corns will now be scheduled to appear in Greene Circuit Court for an initial hearing.

Warrant out for man who told officer he was ‘way out of town’

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Linton man accused of failure to register as a sex offender. His whereabouts are unknown but when an officer talked to him on the phone, the man said he was “way out of town.”

Kevin Lee Corns, 34, Linton, is wanted on a warrant issued last Friday, July 5, on a preliminary charge of failure to register as a sex offender, with a prior conviction for failure to register, a Level 5 felony.

Det. Paul Clark of the Linton Police Department began trying to locate Corns last Tuesday, July 2, after a DCS case worker notified him that she had become aware that Corns was not living at the residence where he was registered.

Greene County Sex Offender Registrar Temperance Harris said Corns was registered as living on A Street NW in Linton but when Det. Clark visited the residence, he learned Corns had previously lived there but had left a while back, and that he might be living with a family member on 12th Street NE, also in Linton.

When Det. Clark spoke to the resident at that address, he learned Corns was not living there and had not been staying there but might have stayed in a vacant trailer nearby.

During this investigation, Corns called and talked to the registrar then called the police department and Det. Clark was able to talk to him. Corns allegedly claimed he had been staying at 12th Street and he said the people who said he was not staying at the address he gave the registrar were lying.

Det. Clark reported that Corns told him his current location was “way out of town.”

Corns was convicted in Greene County on June 7, 2006, of sexual misconduct with a minor. He got four years with three years suspended. He was released from custody on October 5, 2009. After serving his time, he’s been required to register as a sexual offender but not for life. His need to register will end on October 5, 2019.

Corns was also convicted in Pike County on April 14, 2014, of failure to register as a sex offender.
